The folding wheelchair with a wheel (5, 6) each side, mounted on respective side frames (1, 2), has these frames moves inwards towards one another in the folded condition. This movement is controlled by a double parallelogram linkage between them. This consists of upper and lower pairs of arms (16-19) hinged at one end to a vertical member (20) which is pulled upwards, and secured by hinges (12-15) at the other end to the side frames. The vertical member consists of a rectangular casting with an opening through each corner for the four hinge pins (21-24) for the inner ends of the arms, with a gripping part (25) at the top. The seat has two parts (26) which swing upwards, and has a gap (27) at the centre for access to the gripping part. |
