A sinker plate is purposely shaped for the specialised prodn. of pile loops in circular knitted fabric intended for use in socks and footwear. It is joined to a knock-down sinker plate and is fitted into a radial groove a set into the inner and outer crown rings of the needle cylinder bed of the knitting machine. The sinker plate is intended to avoid certain difficulties previously encountered in loop pile fabric knitting, in connection with the maintained separation of the yarns forming pile loops and normal loops. It also avoids the doubling up of sinker plates required for the two kinds of loops.
