PURPOSE:To prevent falling-off of active substance and scheme to improve charge- discharge cycle life by pressing the element involving double electrode plates with a specific and uniform force, and making the thickness of glass mat after pressing to the half. CONSTITUTION:A double electrode plate 1 is prepared by forming positive electrode active substance layer 3 on one side of a conductive plate 2 made of lead or lead alloy and negative electrode active substance layer 4 on the other side. Contacting with the positive electrode active substance layer surface 3, a glass mat 5 and a separator 6 are arranged, and on both ends of the elements, pressing plates 7 are arranged. The pressing plate 7 is fastened by bolt 9 with the fastening force of 40- 120kg/dm<2> per unit apparent surface area of the positive electrode active substance layer 3 in dried state before liquid pouring, and controlled so that the glass mat 5 presses uniformly the positive electrode active substance layer 3. The thickness of glass mat 5 in the case when the pressing force described above is applied onto the element in dried state is controlled to be equal to the half of the thickness of the positive electrode active substance layer 3 or the above. |
