CONSTITUTION:The diameter of a glass tube 17 is larger than or equal to two times that of a glass tube 12 to confine plasma 11. A selecting film 18 for transmitting wavelength composed of, e.g., SiO2, Ta2O2, MgF2, ThF, etc., is constituted in the form of a multilayer, on the outer periphery of the glass tube 17. Between the glass tubes 12, 17, refrigerant is made to flow. The light generated by the plasm a 11 in a lamp 1 travells extending in the direction of circumference. The dielectric multilayer 18 transmits only the light effective for laser pumping, and laser medium 2 is excited by converging path 3. Ultraviolet rays or infrared rays whose wave lengths are longer than or equal to 900nm is reflected by the dielectric multilayer film 18, absorbed again by the plasm 11, and radiated again as the light.
