Machine comprising a chassis with two axles (7 and 8) consisting of a standard factory-built tower wagon cut into two parts (2A and 2B) which are then connected by a bridge-shaped frame (3) carrying units (4 and 5) for working on the railway track. A work progression device (15) connects this machine to the railway track, independently of its rolling members (7 and 8). A power plant (14) supplies both the working units (4 and 5) and the work progression device (15). This machine is mainly intended to be inserted in a normal train in order to be brought on site to the locations where the work is to be carried out and brought back onto the storage siding for the purpose of saving means and of making the most of the periods allotted for carrying out work. <IMAGE>
