Activation of H-form zeolite catalysts - by passing hydrogen through bed of supported metal capable of being hydrided and then through the zeolite

Method of activating a H-form zeolite comprises passing a stream of H2 over a bed of a reversibly hydridable metal (cpd.) (I) on a support, at 50-600 degrees C and a pressure of between atmospheric and 100 bars. The H2 leaving this bed is then passed over the H-form zeolite at 50-600 degrees C and atmos.-100 bars for 1-50 h., a a space velocity of 0.1-120 1/h/g. of zeolite/vol. catalyst, the vol. ratio of the first catalyst bed/second catalyst bed being 0.001-1. The zeolite is used for the catalytic conversion of aromatic hydrocarbons. The catalyst prepd. is highly active, very selective and has improved stability.
