The cassette control mechanism for a cassette recorder has a cylindrical cam (33) with a toothed ring (34) around the top, controlling a lifting mechanism for the cassette forming part of the ejection system. The toothed ring is engaged by a toothed pinion (17) alongside, driven by the motor (2) to as to rotate a sloping cam surface (35) operating the lifting device. This cam also operates a switch so that after the initial release of the cassette, continued operation of the motor completes the full ejection. Similarly, after insertion of the cassette, it is moved into second position for playing, assisted by a spring.
