A beam, preferably for house-building purposes, comprises two substantially parallel elements 1, 11 which take up pressure or tensile load, and a web 2, 12 which connects the elements. The web consists of two substantially parallel metal plates 2, 12, at least one element 1 comprising an exposed material that can be nailed, preferably wood. The nailable element preferably has a substantially rectangular or square cross section. The web plates 2, 12 are also preferably arranged in contact with one another, and the end parts 3, 13 of the web plates adjoining the nailable element are preferably bent 90 degrees to form a continuous support for the foldable element. The borders of the end parts 3, 13 are preferably bent 90 degrees in relation to the main part of the plates so as to connect to the side surfaces 7, 17 of the nailable element.
