PURPOSE:To prevent the short-circuit of plates and extend the life of batteries by removing the active material remaining on the surface of the plates after impregnating the active material to the plates and drying the same. CONSTITUTION:Active materials, such as cadmium hydroxide for the negative plate and nickel hydroxide for the positive plate, are impregnated to sintered porous nickel plates of the alkaline battery, then dried to form battery plates 1. Subsequently, the active materials remaining over the surface of the plates are removed. It is preferable to remove the active material from the surface of the plates mechanically by spraying water through nozzles 3 against the surface of the plates while brushing with rotary brushes 4, or chemically treating the plates with 0.1N hydrochloric acid or nitric acid to prevent the clogging of the pores of the plates. |
