<p>The distance between the inner dia. and the outer dia. of a toroidal seal in the form of a double-walled tube, is greater than the radial distance which is to be sealed and the seal has, in its outer wall, a circumferential slit which can be sealed. The double-walled seal is of a flexible, elastomeric compsn. reinforced pref. with textile cords subtending an angel to the centre line of the seal of 20-40 degrees. It can roll in the direction of its centre line, so as to transfer part of the outer wall into the inner wall, and vive versa, without losing any of the sealing effect. Used to make a sealed connection between pipelines extending from one platform to another or form a platform to an installation on land. The pipes are free to expand axially or to contract without damage, and some radial motion can also be accomodated. The cavity between pipe and fitting is sealed at both ends against penetration by seawater. The interior of the fitting and the exterior of the pipe are protected against corrosion.</p> |
