<p>A splash element (54) for a splash-pack of a cooling tower (20) comprises a grid of intersecting ribs having deep webs, a first sort (58) of the ribs having apertures (66) through which ribs of the second sort (60) may be inserted and then locked to form the grid. The grids are suspended by wires (50, 52) secured by a clip (82) engaged with a web (64) of a rib. At the ends of the webs are locking apertures which are penetrated by clips (56) for assembling together grids into a layer (48,49). The ribs are of plastics material. The layers and grids are readily assembled and structurally strong enough that one layer (49) may be used as a walkway in the tower thus eliminating the need for separate walkways and walkway support structures. <IMAGE></p> |
