Separate exhaust pipes each receive exhaust gases from a plurality of cylinders of an I. C. engine. The exhaust pipes(11, 12) merge into a common outlet(13) delivering exhaust gases into a reaction chamber(14). the cross section areas of the exhaust pipes, outlet and continuing passageway through the reaction chamber are substantially the same in effective cross section area to avoid temperture drop in the exhaust gased due to expansion.
