Iron ore or concentrates about 0.5-3.0% SiO2, 7-12 % moisture, 96.5 -99.0% iron oxide, 0.5 - 1.0% bentonite were pelletized, and the pellets were surface-coated with about 1-4.5% limestone and dried at 260-370≦̸C for 2-6 min. The dried pellets which suitable for direct reduction temperatrues at above 760≦̸C in a shaft furnace with a minimum of clustering were preheated to 927-1093≦̸C, and fired at 1149-1316≦̸C for 5-15 min.
