The vibrator (5) is controlled by a slide valve (1) which is in turn controlled by a saw tooth (11) wheel (10). A spring (9) keeps the plunger (7) in contact with the teeth (11) of the wheel (10). As the wheel rotates, an oscillating motion is imparted to the plunger (7) which directs the flow of oil from the inlet (2) alternately to the outlets (3, 4). These outlets communicate with opposite sides of the piston of the vibrator (5) causing it to oscillate. The asymmetric shape of the teeth (11) causes a correspondingly assymetric oscillation of the vibrator (5) which is particularly useful for road compacting work.
