The valve seat, contained in a housing, is particularly for a butterfly-type throttle valve. It has a seat ring (12) with flat parallel side faces (19, 20). The ring is made of rigid material allowing some mechanical distortion in the radial direction. Thus when under radial load in the plane of the groove (18) accommodating it in the housing, the ring moves and/or distorts without altering its periphery. Devices are provided (10, 11) to maintain its new shape and position on relief from the radial load.
