An aircraft radio system having forwardlooking and rearward-looking antennas and provided with an antenna - switching arrangement for usual diversity reception facilities. In order to achieve that substantially always that antenna which receives the best signal is connected to the receiver, the system not only provides the usual acceptability criterion for selecting an antenna, but in addition it selects the appropriate antenna with reference to the velocity of the aircraft relative to a ground transmitter even if the signal received on the inappropriate antenna is still acceptable.
