PURPOSE:To make possible modulation even to DC voltage components by installing the electrodes for applying modulating electric fields to an optical guide having electro-optic effect on a substrate by way of transparent conductive layers. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 provided with an optical guide 3 having electro- optic effect is provided with transparent conductive layers 6a, 6b which are transparent to stripe-form laser light by mixed crystals of In2O3, SnO2, etc. On the layers 6a, 6b are laminated a chromium layer 7 of good adhesion and a metal layer 8 of small specific resistance, whereby electrodes 5a, 5b are formed. DC electric fields are applied to the optical guide 3 by these electrodes 5a, 5b provided to the substrate 1 by way of the conductive layer and not by way of any insulation layer without capacity action of the electrodes 5a, 5b even at the applying of DC voltage. Hence, even for the DC voltage components, the laser light entering from one end of the optical guide 3 is modulated and emits from the other end. |
