The peg is for anchoring an ice-axe or ropes in snow while climbing. It consists of a cylindrical peg (1) with a pointed end (2) and projecting rungs. Near the top of the peg is a fin (10) that moves freely and holes (9) in which an axe or rope can be fixed. Near the point, the projecting rungs are formed from a strip of material bent and fixed to the peg. The top of each projection (3, 7) is at right angles to the peg and the bottom (8) is at a small angle to it.
|
