摘要 <p>The process comprises cross-linking an unsatd., water-immiscible polyester resin using a suitable cross-linking monomer, pref. styrene, and simultaneously generating CO2 as foam blowing agent. A catalyst is used to initiate the cross-linking reaction and a catalyst promoter is used. Pref. materials are benzoyl peroxide and dimethylaniline. A mixt. comprising part of the resin, a cross-linking monomer for the resin, calcium bicarbonate or sodium bicarbonate and a catalyst promoter is blended in a controlled manner with a mixt. of equal volume, comprising the remainder of the resin, a cross-linking monomer for the resin, phosphoric and/or hydrochloric acid and a catalyst. The polyester foam may be used as a structural material. The foams comprise a majority of uniform size, closed cells. The foams are rigid and often exhibit high compressive strength.</p>
