A lamp holder for capless lamps comprises a cylindrical moulding 1 of plastics material, e.g. nylon, closed at one end, containing a pair of contacts 4, which receives a lamp 8 and is snap fitted in a synthetic plastics casing 2, the lamp holder being secured in an aperture in a supporting panel 15 by means of a bracket 3, e.g. of carbon steel, a portion 17 of which shields parts 1 and 2 from the heat of the lamp. As shown, each contact 4 has two lamp contacting legs 4c, a locking lug 4a which engages a ledge 4b at the open end of the moulding 1 and a portion 4d which is crimped to a lead 9. The contacts are inserted in the moulding 1 from the open end thereof and are turned through 180 degrees against the outer face of the moulding 1, leads 9 passing through slots (not shown) between sections 11 of a flange provided at the closed end of the moulding, the sections 11 being engaged as a snap fit in undercut recesses 21 of the casing 2. A pair of slots (not shown) in the casing receive a pair of legs 13, formed in the outside edges of the bracket 3 which is snapped on to the casing, each leg being provided with a pair of lugs 14 abutting the face of panel 15 to limit insertion of the holder; also provided on the bracket is the frusto-conical or parabolically shaped heat shielding portion 17 having a pair of fixing lugs 18 which snap over the under ledges 19 of the casing, and legs 20 to support the lamp 8. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), each contact is twice folded to form a blade-like plug and the closed end of the moulding is formed with a pair of openings through which complementary sockets attached to leads are inserted. Alternatively, the contacts may form sockets to receive blade-like plugs carried by the leads. |
