PURPOSE:To improve practicality by separately recording and reproducing two kinds of signals on the same track of a magnetic layer containing both combined high and low coercive-force magnetic materials. CONSTITUTION:Along track 3 of magnetic layer 2 of magnetic recording medium 1 formed by combining a high-coercive-force magnetic material with a low-coercive- force magnetic material, magnetic recording head assembly 5 for the high-coercive- force magnetic material, erasing head 6 and magnetic recording head 7 for the low- coercive-force magnetic material are arranged. Then while magnetic recording medium 1 is run as shown by arrow 4, a recording signal is inputted to terminal 8 to record signal inverted in polarity as magnetization patterns on track split parts 31 and 32 by magnetic heads 52 and 51 and a current needed to erase only the signal of the low-coercive-force magnetic material is supplied to terminal 10 to erase a signal, recorded on the low-coercive-force magnetic material, by erasing head 6. Next, another recording signal is inputted to terminal 11 to attain recording on the low-coercive-force magnetic material over the whole width of track 3 by magnetic head 7. |
