Crude pellets contg. iron and/or iron ore are fed via a grate furnace through drying, preheating and hardening zones, and then through a rotary drum furance. The pellets consists mainly of dust obtd. from iron and steel mfg. furnaces, and ore dust, both with an appreciable content of SOx. The pellets are reduced in the rotary drum furnace; and hot gases from the drum flow in counter current to the pellets in the grate furnace. A granular desulphurising agent is added to pellets at the inlet end of the travelling grate and is heated in the three grate zones so it absorbs the SOx. The agent is pref. limestone, dolomite, CaO, and/or calcined dolomite, of size 5-25 mm. The pellets are made from dust which includes that obtd. from blast furnaces or converters. |
