In a tropical country, a solar heating panel (10) generates sufficient steam (11) to drive a turbine (12). The turbine's exhaust (22) is fed to a condenser (23) and, via a circulating pump (25) back to the panel. Fins within the panel enhance the absorption of heat and its transfer to any liquid medium used. The turbine drives a DC generator (16) through a gearbox, (13, 14, 15) to charge a bettery bank (19). This provides power for a motor (20), coupled to an alternator (21), which together produce an output at local line voltage. The complete system can be oriented on castors so that maximum input is obtained from the sun, and this is itself augmented by the use of diamone-pointed elements in the glazing used to enclose the panel. ADVANTAGE - Solar power generating concept ensures that maximum value is extracted from sun's rays in tropical countries, enhanced efficiency of turbine centred system providing benefits for nations with restricted resources.
