Regenerative and/or protective internal linings or exterior sheaths for pipes are made of knitted yarns comprising fibres of glass, carbon, silica, ceramics, polyester, high tenacity polyester, aramid, RYTTON (RTM), or mixts. of these, subjected to retraction and blockage of the mesh by pref. thermal treatment and coated with resin(s) which are compatible with the fibres and appropriate to the nature of the pipework treated, esp. w.r.t. sealing against leakage, thermal protection, fire resistance, resistance to chemical attack and impact resistance. USE/ADVANTAGE - Sheath is supplied in the form of a knitted stocking-like material coated e.g. with polyester or epoxy resin, which is installed in the usual way in the interior of a length of pipe and the resin allowed to cure e.g. under pressure of hot air to accelerate the cure of the resin while the lining is held against the pipe wall. The sheath may also be applied to the exterior of the pipe to provide a protective sheath e.g. to improve resistance to fire or to insulate hot pipes e.g. against human contact. Knitting is a rapid means of producing the sheath material and the prod. has good deformability so that it conforms easily to bends and distortions in the pipe wall.
