Single sided polishing of domed or curved glass panes - via pneumatic polishing membrane driven by eccentric, esp. for mfg. mirrors

A disc is fitted with vertical pillars employed to support a curved or domed pane underneath a polishing head. The head consists of a hollow cylinder with an open base covered by a membrane which is elastic and contains a polishing agent; and pressure, esp. via compressed air, is exerted on the membrane so it forms a curved or spherical surface matching the surface of the pane. The hollow cylinder is driven by an eccentric so it moves in an orbit during polishing. Membrane is pref. covered on its underside with a diamond-shaped grid made of felt, the distances between the strands of felt being smaller than the length of the stroke of the eccentric drive. Compressed air is pref. fed via an accurate pressure into the cylinder to distend the membrane. The surface of the polishing head always matches the contour of the panes.
