The ducted marine propeller includes a steering control. The propeller is located inside an intake port of the duct, formed by tapering section walls, and the propeller shaft is supported in two sets of bearings through a vertical support plate linked between upper and lower mounting plates. The vertical and support plates form a rigid support cage for the propeller shaft, with the drive via bevel gears from the vertical shaft through the steering axis. The propeller is firmly held so that it can be closely spaced inside the duct. This reduces the chances of cavitation.
