Liqs. are filtered in a system with a hollow drum around which is passed a filter medium of nonwoven type. The drum is sealed on one side and has a hollow shaft on the other side which serves as run off for the filtrate. The drum is mounted inside a vessel and is rotated about a horizontal axis. Rollers are mouned at either end of the trough so that a sheet of the medium is fed across the drum continuously from a supply roll at one end. A level of slurry is maintained by a controller within the trough so that the drum is mainly immersed. Used for filtering liq. streams. Avoids the use of vacuum systems and is therefore simpler and cheaper in construction than rotary vacuum filters. |
