A gasket-forming composition comprises a vulcanizable elastomeric polymer of 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene and a curing agent in a volatile organic solvating medium for the polymer, each component of the solvating medium, including any diluent used, having a minimum boiling point of 230 DEG F. and the total solids concentration being between 50 and 75% by weight. A plasticizer, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, a peptizer, e.g. a mixture of tetraethylthiuram disulphide and piperidinium pentamethylene dithiocarbamate and an inorganic filler, e.g. clay, may also be present. The curing agent may be zinc oxide and magnesium oxide and the solvating medium, toluene or xylene. The compositions are cured. |
