An apparatus for the biological treatment of waste waters comprises aerobic activation space (5 and 6) separation space (4) for separating activated sludge by fluid filtration, a bottom inlet (14) for the separation space and a channel (10) between the separation and activation spaces, both channel ends being connected with the activation space and between these ends with the inlet (14), the total area of a number of holes (12) connecting the upper channel end with the activation space (5) being smaller than one tenth the area of the inlet (14), the area of channel (10) in front of the connection to the inlet (14) being greater than ten times the total area of the holes (12).
