The filter includes a flexible and permeable support (a) contg. or a adjacent to chemical sorption agents (b). The support (a) is pref. a fabric or cloth, either of which may be quilted, and esp. contg. waterproof materials, e.g. fibres or similar elements made of ceramics, glass, plastics or metals, and quilted like a mattress to form layers between which agents (b) are located. Different agents (b) may be used in the various layers. Agents (b) are pref. active carbon; and/or active coke; and/or CaCl2; and/or soda lime; and/or a catalyst for CO. The agents may be fixed in or on support (a) as a liq., e.g. NaOH soln.; or as powders; or on expanded granules of Ca-Al-silicate. The catalyst for CO is pref. 60% MnO2, 40% CuO; or 50% MnO2, 30% CuO, 15% cobalt oxide and 5% Ag2O. Air breathed by the driver and passengers is purified from noxious substances even in very dense traffic, etc.
