<p>The distributor has two timing control weights (5) mounted on pivots (4). The weights tend to swing outwards under centrifugal force as speed increases but are partly restrained by tension springs (13, 14). The spring (14) has a slotted eye at one end so that it is inoperative at low speeds. This has the effect that the angle of ignition advance increases relatively rapidly with engine speed up to a point when the spring (14) becomes operative. The angle of advance then increases less rapidly until the springs (13, 14) are fully extended and then remains constant.</p> |
