摘要 1,239,591. Automatic exchange systems. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 17 Sept., 1968 [18 Sept., 1967], No. 44135/68. Heading H4K. Special service stations belonging to a number of switching offices, such as 3 and 4, are supervised by a special services switching office 5 which in response to calls involving special service stations consults a stored programme controlled switching office 6 in order to obtain instructions regarding the special services to be made available. The provision of a special services office allows subscribers to step-by-step and crossbar switching offices to be given special services without the need to modify the subscribers' offices. The special services provided are abbreviated code dialling, the setting up of a connection to a third party over an add-on trunk to permit a triangular conversation, the diverting of a calls to a station to a nominated other station, and the provision of an indication to a called busy station that a second call is waiting, the busy station being able to switch back and forth between its existing connection and the intruding caller. It is also stated that the special services switching office provides the possibility of call-trace facilities and could provide special channels for stations with combined television and telephone equipment. The special services office 5, shown as a common supervisory office, provides an auxiliary line circuit 21, 31, for each special service station, the lines from such stations being taken to their auxiliary line circuit in office 5 before being terminated on their own exchange. A crossbar link circuit 22 in office 5 connects 1000 auxiliary line circuits to 20 originating call trunks, 20 terminating call trunks, and 10 add on trunks. To each such trunk there is a permanent connection to a corresponding trunk such as 32, 33, 83 in the stored programme controlled switching office 6 the control 35 of which governs connections between the trunks and receivers and outpulsers over a link circuit 44 and also governs the switching through of trunks, corresponding to add on and terminating trunks, to local or tandem offices in the exchange system. Processing in office 6 is of the Bell System No. 1 ESS type with system duplication and ferrods employed as scanning elements. Access to special service information in office 6 is obtained by the address of the special service line in terms of his appearance as an auxiliary line circuit with a termination on link circuit 22 of supervisory switching office 5. The identity of the line so obtained from the link circuit 22 is transmitted from a frequency shift pulse sender 24, of the sort described in Specification 1,027,441, to a receiver 46 in the programme controlled office 6 such receivers being capable of receiving addresses in that form as well as information dialled from subscribers. Abbreviated dialling.-As with all call originations from special service subscribers detection of a call origination in the common supervisory office 5 causes a connection to be set up over an originating trunk to a receiver 46 in the office 6. Outpulser 24 in office 5 sends the three digit number characterizing the calling subscriber and the processor directs the storage of abbreviated dialling digits and supplies the full version to an outpulser 45 if the calling subscriber is on record as having the service. The call origination is responded to in the normal way at the subscriber's own office and the connections therein established are released from office 6 and a fresh originating condition is signalled to the subscriber's own office before the full version of the wanted number is sent from outpulser 45. At the completion of sending offices 5 and 6 retire from the connection except in so far as office 5 continues supervision of the auxiliary line circuit. Third party added on to existing connection.- When a station with an existing connection and having the requisite special service recorded in office 6 flashes his switchhook the office 5 responds by connecting the station over an add on trunk 11 to the corresponding trunk 33 in office 6 which provides access to local and tandem offices of the system. The digits dialled for the third party are accumulated in office 6 and repeated forward to the wanted office, the trunk 33 being left in service for the duration of the call once the connection has been set up. If the attempt to set up the connection to the third party is unsuccessful the calling party releases and maintains his original connection by flashing his switchhook twice in rapid succession. The third party may release and leave the original connection in existence. The third party may be connected to the calling station on reply for an interim conversation, the three parties being multiplied together in the auxiliary line circuit for a triangular conversation in response to a switchhook flash from the calling station. Diverting calls.-Ringing current is detected in the auxiliary line circuit of a special service station and effects connection of the line over a terminating call trunk 41 in office 5 to the corresponding trunk 83 in office 6 where requirements are ascertained and, if call diversion is in force, a connection is set up to a designated other station by way of the trunk 83. The trunks in offices 5 and 6 stay in service for the duration of the call. The designation of the station to which calls are to be diverted may be supplied direct from the special service station or be set up by an operator on instruction. A reply from the special service station causes abandonment of the attempt to divert the call. Call waiting service.-When a station with this service receives a call the connection is set up over that station's own office and ringing current is detected in the auxiliary line circuit. Office 5 responds by identifying the incoming trunk, or local junctor, involved in the call at the stations own office and sets up a parallel connection by way of a terminating call trunk 41 and link circuit 22 between the auxiliary line circuit and the trunk or junctor over which the station has been called. The connection over the station's own exchange is now released so that his appearance at that exchange is available for the termination of a second call. If a second call arrives ringing current is detected in the auxiliary line circuit and causes the injection of a tone into the existing connection to let the station know that another call is waiting. By flashing his switchhook the subscriber may transfer back and forth between the first and second calling lines.
