PURPOSE:To provide an odorant for fuel gas, which has table odor perceptible at low concentration, and is non-corrosive to metals, gas kets, diaphragms, etc. and harmless to man at the concetration of use, containing a bisalkyl mercapto-compound. CONSTITUTION:An odorant containing a compound of formula R1-S-R2-S-R3 (R1 R3 and 1-4C hydrocabon), e.g. 1,2-bismethyl mercaptoethane, and 1,4-bismethyl mercapto-2-butene. The perceptible concentration limit of the compound is less than 10gamma/m<3>. To detect the leakage of natural of city gas, 5-10mg of the compound is added to 1m<3> of the gas. |
