Safety unit for working at heights - has automatic set of cord clamping rings and manually operated set to give double safety action

The safety unit comprises a housing (1) with the safety cord (6) passing through a hole (16) at the bottom. The hole is offset to apply friction on a set (3) of rings surrounding the cord. If a fall occurs, the increased friction overcomes the pressure of a spring (13) to clamp the rings tightly. Above the set of rings is a manually operated set (2) of clamping rings. These have a similar spring loaded action (5) and are opened by a trigger (4) when moving. If the automatic set locks, the trigger releases the manual set which also clamps onto the cord.
