The present invention provides an apparatus for control of the operation of an overdrive mechanism which may be selectively operated, in a vehicle driven by an internal combustion engine having a throttle, said apparatus comprising a detection switch including a first switch member responsive to the running speed of the vehicle and a second switch member responsive to the open degree of the throttle of the engine, the overdrive mechanism being of the type adapted to be selected automatically to be in its operative condition when the detection switch is operated.
