PURPOSE:To make replenishing of molten metal to the freezing end point easy and prevent the production of shrinkage holes by so controlling cooling method as specified that the unfrozen parts in the casting material deviate to the belt side in the freezing regions of the belt wheel type continuous casting machine. CONSTITUTION:In the freezing region S from the molten metal pouring A point up to the freezing end point B of the mold 5 formed by the belt 2 and casting ring 1 of the belt wheel type continuous casting machine, the cooling nozzles on the belt 2 side in the freezing region S are all closed, those from the B point up to the C points are opened and the cooling nozzles 7 on the casting ring 1 side are all opened so that the unfrozen parts 9 in the casting material deviate to the endless belt 2 side. Since the cooling strength on the belt 2 side in the region S is decreased, the molten metal supply route to the freezing end point B widens and the replenishment of the molten metal is readily accomplished, thus the production of shrinkage holes occuring in the mold inside is prevented. Controlling of the cooling method is accomplished by decreasing the nozzle openings on the belt 2 side or this may be done also by controlling the coating amount of the parting powder on the inside surface of the mold 5. |
