The personal monitoring system is for people operating in dangerous environments whether on land, underground, or in buildings. The system comprises at least one portable sender and a central receiving station evaluating the signals received. At least one fixed code signal indicator has an information carrier transmitting a specific signal for the fixed code indicator location information. A reading unit is allocated to the portable sender which reads the location information. The sender transmits a corresponding location signal.
