[Also in Division C1] In the catalytic oxidation of organic compounds, the catalyst, which comprises a soluble derivative of selenium IV, is recovered (see Division C1). Specified organic compounds are acyclic ketones having the formula in which R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> represent an alkyl or aryl group, complex ketones of the steroid group, alicyclic ketones, halogenated ketones, aldehydes, unsaturated fatty acids, keto acids and thio acids. The only oxidation exemplified is that of acrolein to acrylic acid in tert.-butanol using H 2 O 2 . |
