Oil slick collector ship - with obliquely positioned propulsion units and flaps in ships sides

An oil slick collector ship is a flat-bottom tanker which has been fitted with one or two propulsion units to give it a motion athwart. The ship's hull has one or several flaps at one or both sides which, when opened up, direct the oil slick passing along the hull into internal chambers. The oil collects in the latter and can be skimmed off for storage in separate tanks. The rear athwart propulsion unit can be replaced by the main propeller if a suitable rudder is available. Such a ship can clear contaminated areas very quickly and efficiently in a simple way.
