Raw juice, produced from crushed sugar cane is thickened in several stages, using at least in the first stage the gas derived from burning the bagasse and a totally enclosed pan. The vapour produced in the first stage is used to heat the subsequent stages. Process eliminates the need for the additional fuel required for conventional open-pan methods in conventional plants and makes the plant self-contained. Method requires no steam.
