The vehicle security system comprises a coded plate visible from the outside and provided with a code which may be stored in a central computer. The police can check on the vehicle details so that stolen vehicles are rapidly identified. The details can relate to personal information known only to the owner, i.e. date of birth, so that the police can double check the details by cross reference on the driver's licence.
