The pulling appts. or mandrel (16) has a conical end, which is forced axially into the end of the cable (4, 5). A jacking arrangement with screw is used for this purpose. In order to prevent splitting of the cable sheath clamps are placed around the cable end. These take the form of hose clips (18) which are tightened with a screw. The jacking arrangement is adjustable clamp (3, 12, 24) which locks onto the cable and carries a plate (7) through which the jacking screw (6) passes. The screw bears on the end of the mandrel (16).
