In order to avoid agglomeration and sticking of the granules to the cutter blade, filaments of the material are extruded through a heated die (14) starting from a molten mass of the material, the heating of the die being interrupted. Little cylinders of the extruded material are cut off by means of a rotating blade (32) acting directly against the die (14) and are collected in a hopper (38) which has a stream of air (42) passing through it.
