Process for the preparation of flame-resistant compounds

The preparation of compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which n denotes 1 or 2, where if n = 1: R denotes a phenyl radical and if n = 2: R denotes a single bond or methylene is described. The process is based on the reaction of 1 mol equivalent of a compound of the formula R &lsqbstr& CH = O]n (II> and/or an acetal thereof of the formula R &lsqbstr& CH(OR1)2]n (III> in which R1 denotes an alkyl radical having 1-4 C atoms, with 2n mol equivalents of the compound of the formula (BrCH2)3C-CH2OH. These compounds are suitable for the flame-resistant finishing of polymeric organic materials.
