1462015 Benzimidazole derivatives CHINOIN GYOGYSZER ES VEGYESZETI TERMEKEK GYARA RT 5 Feb 1975 [5 Feb 1974] 4863/75 Heading C2C Novel benzimidazole derivatives of the formula wherein one of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen and the other is -(CH 2 ) n So 3 H; n is 1 to 5 and R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl, or a salt thereof, are prepared by either (a) alkylating an ester of the formula with either a compound of the formula wherein m is 1 to 3, or with a compound of formula wherein X is halogen and M is hydrogen, sodium, potassium or ammonium, or (b) reacting a compound of the formula with either (i) a diurethane derivative of the formula (ii) a thiourea-diurethane derivative of the formula (iii) a carboxamidocyanamide derivative of the formula (iv) a dicarboxamidocyanamide derivative of the formula (v) a carbalkoxyisocyanate of the formula (vi) a carbalkoxyisothiocyanate of the formula (vii) a dihalomethylene-carbaminic acid ester of the formula or (viii) a dimethylthiocarbaminic acid ester of the formula (c) reacting a compound of the formula with a haloformate of the formula or (d) replacing group Z in a compound of the formula with a sulphonic acid moiety. The novel compounds possess herbicidal and pharmaceutical activity. |
