The unit is intended to ensure switching of a solenoid valve (10) which cuts the idling fuel or idling mixture supply to a combustion engine when it is switched off. AT the moment of switching the valve is de-energised to a point just before opening. On re-starting, the valve is actuated by a surge voltage. The coil of the solenoid may be in series with a switch which is controlled by a timer circuit triggered as a function of the vacuum in the inlet duct or of the engine speed, whilst the valve is opened by a capacitor discharge as a function of speed and/or vacuum.
