The application is to the seasoning of new or reconditioned commutators for medium or large machines. The commutator is rotated in a magnetic field which is stationary. The eddy currents thereby induced in the laminations are used to heat the whole assembly. The field is so arranged relative to the commutator surface that the field component parallel to the direction of motion also induces currents. These slow radially in the commutator bars. The rotational speed and magnetic pole dimensions are chosen to give current in the middle frequency band.
