<p>Waste water purificn. to remove nitrates and/or nitrates and organic cpds. is carried out by activated sludge treatment in the presence of added NH+4 ions and/or urea at a dissolved O2 concn. of 0.1-4.0 mg/l. The treatment can be effected at pH4-12. The amt. of NH+4 and/or urea added is pref. 10-1000 mg/l. A biogenic P cpd. can also be added, pref. superphosphate or Na3PO4 in an amt. of =200 mg/l. High purificn. levels can be achieved over a wide pH range (e.g. 95-98% redn. in BOD, 99% NO-3 removal and 98-100% NH3 removal).</p> |
