This invention provides an improved pelleting or extruding method for particulate solids comprising the addition of a granular solid protein, specifically collagen,or gelatin, to the particulate solid mixture prior to or simultaneously with pelleting or extruding. Preferably, the protein has a particle size of not greater than about minus 25 mesh. Further, preferably, the granular protein is present in admixture with an adjuvant which serves to increase the lubricating effect of the protein. The adjuvant include anionic polymers, inorganic salts, i.e. metal salts of both inorganic and inorganic acids, as well as wholly organic salts such as urea and derivatives thereof. Other useful adjuvants include proteolytic enzymes and other compounds which tend to denature and hydrolize the protein molecule. |
