They may be prepared by reacting a carboxyaldehyde of the formula with an aliphatic aldehyde of the formula R-CH 2 -CHO in a basic medium to form an aldol of the formula and dehydrating and hydrogenating the aldol to form the terpene. The compounds of the invention may be used in fragrance compositions.
